VARSITY: Township returns to their winning ways in romp over Solanco 12-2
by Adam Gegg · Published · Updated
The Varsity Blue Streaks were in desperate need of a victory coming into Saturday's game after dropping 7 straight games over the course of the last 2.5 weeks. The visiting Solanco Golden Mules weren't ready for the offensive clinic that the Blue Streaks were about to put on them during the rescheduled matchup from earlier in the week.

Ethan Kile took the mound early for the Blue Streaks for his 4th start (5th appearance) of the season and retired the Golden Mules quickly to give Township a chance to jump out to a lead in the bottom of the 1st. The Blue Streaks did just that by putting up 4 runs in the first inning. Colin Yablonski and Ben DeMarco were both hit by pitches to get free passes to 1st and Kile scored C. Yablonski on a single to take a 1-0 lead. A series of errors and a pitching change later, DeMarco stole home to give MT a 2-0 lead with Brenden Moshos at the plate. With 2 outs, Moshos lined a double into right field to keep the offense alive. Rece Bender walked and Colin Fitzgerald was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Will Greiner who singled and picked up his first RBIs of the season to make it a 4-0 game after 1 inning.
Kile only needed 4 pitches in the top of the 2nd to get 3 straight outs against the Golden Mules. Township's offense returned in the 2nd with a C. Yablonski double, DeMarco walk, and Kile intentional walk to load the bases. With 1 out, Moshos and Bender were each walked to force runs across the plate. Township carried a 6-0 lead into the top of the 3rd inning where Solanco loaded the bases, but came up empty with Kile still on the mound.
Another productive half inning in the 3rd gave Township a 10-0 lead rolling into the 4th inning. The additional 4 runs were made possible by a Travis Kraft single, C. Yablonski HBP (2nd of the game), and a Nick Kurtz walk. Kile roped a double to center field to bring home his 2nd and 3rd RBIs of the morning before Moshos singled and scored 2 more Township runners. With the 10-run rule in effect, Solanco and Township were retired quickly in the 4th inning before the Golden Mules struck for 2 runs off of Kile in the 5th. Township again worked to apply the 10-run rule to end the game in the bottom of the 5th. DeMarco's first hit of the afternoon and a Matthew Peipher double with 2 outs put men on 2nd and 3rd for Township. Errors by Solanco on Bender's ground ball forced the winning runs across the plate to give the Blue Streaks a 12-2 win in 5 innings.
With the win, Township is now 5-8 on the season and 4-7 in league play. Kile picked up his 2nd win of the year and crossed the 20 strikeout mark on the season.
Thanks again to the MT Lacrosse team who supported the varsity team during this game from beyond the fence in left field! We always love the school spirit and support from other teams around the high school!
Next Game: Manheim Township will host Hempfield at Westfield Insurance Park on Monday (4/30) at 4:15 to kick off the 2nd round of matchups with Section 1 opponents.
