Varsity needs late inning comeback to secure 7th straight victory, 4-3 over CV

With Conestoga Valley visiting on Wednesday afternoon, the Varsity Blue Streaks were looking to avenge a close 4-3 loss at CV last season. A shaky 1st inning on the mound for Ryan Jones could have dampened the Blue Streaks' spirits, but the determination to win helped this team complete a big comeback.

Jones surrendered 4 consecutive singles to start the game and the Buckskins scored 3 runs in the top of the 1st before the sophomore pitcher battened down the hatches and held strong. Still facing a 3-run deficit in the 2nd inning, Township's comeback began with a lead off single from Will Greiner and a follow up walk from Colin Fitzgerald. Both runners stole a base and scored on an error and passed ball during Kyle Donton's first AB to make it 3-2 CV.

After the rocky start, Jones stifled the CV offense allowing only 1 walk and 1 single over the next 6 innings en route to a complete game. Township still had work to do as they stepped to the plate in the bottom of the 6th inning still trailing 3-2. Jones led off with a double and courtesy runner, Jake Schaefer, advanced to 3rd base on a Colin Yablonski SAC bunt. Pinch hitter Colin Morrisette got the chance to drive in the tying run and did just that with a single through the infield to the left fielder. With the game tied, Greiner took a pitch off the hands before Fitzgerald loaded the bases on a single. Donton stepped up and hit a fly ball to center field that was caught and dropped on the exchange that allowed Morrisette to score from 3rd and give Township the late lead, 4-3.

Jones set the Buckskins down 1-2-3 in the 7th to secure the 4-3 victory, Varsity's 7th straight win. With 7 K's on the day, Jones earned his 3rd victory of the season to push his season to 3-0 with a 2.06 ERA and 17 strikeouts.
