Shenosky dominates (again) as Township topples Conestoga Valley, 6-2

After putting in overtime this weekend with a 12-2 home win against Central York, the Blue Streaks hit the road to start the week away at Conestoga Valley this afternoon. The Buckskins were next in line to try and cool off a Township team that has rattled off nine consecutive wins to start the season. Sadly for CV today, the Blue Streaks only got hotter.

A leadoff double from Kyle Musser and follow up single off the bat of Drew Sassaman put runners in scoring position after only 10 pitches in the 1st. An RBI ground out from Colin Fitzgerald and defensive error on a pop up from Evan Clark made it 2-0 MT very quickly. Dylan King made it 3-0 with a single of his own before Township was retired in the 1st.

Blue Streaks’ starting pitcher Ben Shenosky (5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 8 K) was looking for his 4th win in his 4th start on the mound this season and he picked up right where he left off last week picking up three strikeouts in the 1st inning. Although CV put runners in scoring position in the 1st and 3rd, Shenosky was unfazed and remained in control all afternoon. Township helped out their starter with a 4th run on a Sassaman double to score JT Weaver who reached on a leadoff single earlier in the 2nd.

Musser continued to mash the baseball with his second double of the game in the top of the 4th and scored again courtesy of a Sassaman SAC fly. Now leading 5-0, Shenosky continued to pummel the strike zone picking up three more Ks across the 4th and 5th innings to push his total to 8 on the afternoon.

After reaching 90 pitches on the day, Shenosky was replaced on the mound by Fisher Druck to try and finish off another Township victory. CV scratched out a couple hits to put two runs on the board in the 6th to make it 5-2 before the Blue Streaks loaded the bases in the 7th and got a run back on a Ryan Flury SAC fly to left. Making his first appearance on the mound in almost two weeks, Fitzgerald entered in the 7th to hold the 6-2 Township lead.

Striking out two of the final three batters, Fitzgerald put the pedal down and didn’t give Conestoga Valley any chance to rally in the final frame. Now halfway through the season, your Blue Streaks sit at an impressive 10-0 (5-0 Section One) and will be tested again tomorrow afternoon away at Elizabethtown.
