A week removed from their last game, a 3-1 win at home against Cedar Crest last Monday night, the Manheim Township Blue Streaks were on the road to start a long 6 games in 6 days stretch to make up for lost game time last week due to rain. Even with the sky clear at game time, the rain would make an appearance this afternoon as well against the Falcons.
After a relatively quiet start on offense in the top of the 1st, the Blue Streaks sent Gavin Glass to the mound to try and defeat the Falcons for the second consecutive week. Brown and Baerg reached on no-out singles to put a heap of pressure on Glass, but the trusty senior escaped the 1st unscathed. The only action on offense for either team came in the top of the 2nd as a 1-out single for Tyler Mulholland put a man on for Township. Ben Connors roped a triple over the head of the right fielder in the very next at bat to plate Mulholland all the way from 1st and open up a 1-0 lead for the road team. Trey Eckman hit a SAC fly to the center fielder to cement a 2-0 Blue Streaks lead after 2 innings.
The rain started to fall from the continuously darkening sky with about one out in the bottom of the 3rd. Needing at least four innings to make the game official, the umpires halted the game after three innings as the passing shower rolled through. After about a 20 minute delay, the game started up again under a steady drizzle that hampered both teams’ offenses. With no hits for either squad in the 4th or 5th innings and the only baserunner coming from a HBP to Connors in the 5th, the score remained 2-0 Township. As the Falcons took the field to begin the top of the 6th, the umpires surveyed the infield and deemed the conditions unplayable, although the sun had come back out, and the game was ruled final after 5 full innings.
After starting the week with an odd win, the Blue Streaks return home tomorrow for three straight at home against Hempfield, Penn Manor, and Warwick. First pitch tomorrow is at 4:15PM.
Congratulations to the eight Blue Streaks selected to the first and second 2024 Section 1 All-Star teams! Boll, Eckman, Leed, Shirk, Kleckner, Sauder, Connors, and Kemp ⚡️⚾️ https://mtwpbaseball.com/2024/07/02/eight-blue-streaks-honored-with-2024-all-section-honors/
