Miller deals Township to explosive 12-1 win over Central

Coming off back-to-back losses to open a season since 2014, the Manheim Township Blue Streaks were back at home on Monday afternoon to host their “Manheim” neighbors to the North, the Manheim Central Barons. Central got the best of the Blue Streaks early last season in Manheim 4-3.

Looking for a quiet first inning defensively for the first time this season, Township sent lefty Alex Miller (5 IP, 0 R, 0 BB, 9 K) to the mound to make his first start of the season. A single from Central’s Book was all the Barons could muster in the top of the 1st as the Blue Streaks looked for their first lead in a game this season in the bottom half.

After fouling a few pitches off, DH Braden Leed singled to lead off the bottom of the 1st. A Jacob Carrasco walk and Miller walk loaded the bases with only one out. Jack Kenneff picked up an RBI on a bases-loaded walk before Keaton Musser collected an RBI on a SAC fly. A wild pitch brought courtesy runner Sebastian Llessi home to give the Blue Streaks a fast 3-0 lead. The runs kept piling up as Lincoln Stoltzfus and Connor Delvecchio walked and later scored on a Brett Kirchoff 2-run single to blow open a 6-0 lead. Before the 1st inning was up, Carrasco, in his second time at the plate in the inning, swatted an RBI single to right field to send Miller back to the mound with a 7-0 lead.

Central could not manage much of any offense on Miller early in this contest. 1-2-3 innings in both the top of the 2nd and the 3rd kept the Barons’ batters off the base paths and kept Township in front all game long. Another explosive half inning in the bottom of the 2nd widened the Blue Streaks’ lead to 10. No-out singles for Miller and Kenneff put ducks on the pond for Stoltzfus to pick up his second double on the young season to make it 9-0 MT. A Delvecchio ground out later made it 10-0 as Musser scored easily from third.

Aside from a solo homerun surrendered to Central’s Book in the top of the 4th, Miller cruised all afternoon in the shortened 10+ run game. Picking up nine strikeouts over five innings, the crafty lefty earned his first win of the season as Township Varsity picked up their first win in 2025, 12-1.

A busy week at Westfield Insurance Park continues on Wednesday as Warwick comes to Neffsville for the team’s first of two meetings this season. First pitch is scheduled for 4:15 PM.
