Recap
Only a day removed from maybe their biggest win of the season, the Manheim Township Blue Streaks traveled to Ephrata to face the Mountaineers on Saturday afternoon. The weather was less than ideal as a light rain fell for nearly the entire game.
In the top of the 1st,
Josh Boll picked up a 1-out single and later advanced to 3rd after
Andrew Flury reached safely on a fielding error. The Blue Streaks could not capitalize on the situation as a ground out ended the first half inning. Ephrata worked quickly in the bottom of the 1st to grab an early lead. With
Alex Miller making his first start of the season, a single and HBP for the Mounts put runners at 1st and 2nd before an RBI single from Custer made it 1-0 Ephrata through 1.
A leadoff single for
Christian Kleckner in the 2nd looked promising, but three straight strikeouts ended Township’s half of the inning. Miller worked a scoreless 2nd inning before Ephrata found some additional runs in the 3rd. A walk and two HBP loaded the bases before a 2-run single and bases-loaded walk later in the inning made it 4-0 Mounts.
Nolan Peters, making his first ever Varsity appearance, entered in relief for Township in the bottom of the 4th where Ephrata used a walk and RBI single through the infield to extend their lead to 5-0. Another run on an infield single in the 5th set up Ephrata 6-0. Peters worked an efficient 6th by facing only four batters and keeping the score unchanged.
Angelo Billiard picked up a leadoff single in the top of the 7th, but three consecutive outs ended the Blue Streaks’ day with a 6-0 loss.
