Recap
The JV Blue Streaks finished off a perfect 4-0 week with a 12-2 win over Ephrata on Saturday, May 4. It was the team’s 13th consecutive win and runs their record to 17-1 this year.
On Saturday, the Streaks pounded out 14 hits, including multi-hit games from
Brett Kirchoff,
Lincoln Stoltzfus,
Jack Kenneff,
Alex Derderian and
Nolan Peters. Township got on the board first with RBI singles by Kenneff and Peters in the first and second innings, respectively, to jump to a 2-0 lead after two.
Ephrata scratched across two to tie the game against MT starting pitcher
Brogen Sauder in the third. But in the top of the fourth, a leadoff walk to Kirchoff jump started a four run inning for the Blue Streaks that featured four stolen bases and RBIs by Kenneff, Derderian and
JJ Good. That was all the support Sauder would need, as he went 5.1 innings allowing two earned runs with seven strikeouts. Sauder is now 5-0 on the year with a 1.09 ERA.
Township broke the game open late with a two-run sixth and a four-run seventh to put the game out of reach.
Dennis Edelman pitched a perfect inning and two thirds to close it out for MT. Township finished the game with a season-high nine stolen bases, four by Kirchoff (team high 14 SB this year). Township has now stolen 63 bases this year. The heart of the order (Stoltzfus, Kenneff, Derderian) drove in eight runs, and the Blue Streaks have outscored their opponent 188-50 through the first 18 games.
