Recap
In his 2nd start of the season, pitcher Ben Shenosky only needed 48 pitches to earn a win on Wednesday at home against the J.P. McCaskey Red Tornado. McCaskey took an early lead after collecting a series of hits in the 1st inning to give themselves a 1-0 lead over Shenosky. Township quickly responded with some offense of their own.
JT Weaver led off for the Blue Streaks and picked up a walk before Evan Clark singled to put two men on with no outs. Back-to-back triples from Dylan King and Ryan Flury put three runs on the board for JV and they grabbed an early 3-1 lead. A Fisher Druck HBP, Shenosky single, and Max Proulx single plated two more runs for the Streaks before any outs were recorded against them. The offense kept rolling with a Michael Heckman walk before Weaver singled in his second AB of the inning. King also walked and Flury grabbed two more RBI on a single to make it 9-1 MT at the end of the 1st inning.
Shenosky retired 3 of 4 McCaskey batters in the top of the 2nd to preserve the large lead for the Blue Streaks. Township bats were quieted in the 2nd inning as well as they only were able to put one runner on base in the bottom half of the inning. McCaskey scored a 2nd run in the top of the 3rd before Township stepped to the plate and closed out the game.
Weaver led off again with a walk and Clark and King both singled to load the bases for the Blue Streaks. Flury tripled again to clear the bases and blow the lead open 12-2. The hits kept coming as Druck reached on an RBI single and Shenosky and Jesus Perez reached on an error and HBP. Another error by the McCaskey infield allowed the 15th run of the game to cross the plate for Township. Jack Armstrong also took an inside pitch off his back before a bases loaded walk to Weaver made it 16-2. Clark pushed two more runs across the plate with a double before any outs were recorded on the Blue Streaks in the 3rd. The 16-run margin was enough to end the game as the 15-run mercy rule was passed after 3 innings. 18-2 final.
