With rain showers on Lancaster County’s doorstep on Friday afternoon, the decision was made to play the Section 1 match-up between the Penn Manor Comets and visiting Blue Streaks through the weather. With a slow drizzle turning into more of a downpour as the game progressed, Township was determined to grab a win at Comet Field, a place they had not won a game since 2014.

Ryan Jones took the mound in his 2nd start for Varsity this season and he was in control all afternoon with the poor weather working against him. Both MT and Penn Manor picked up singles in the 1st inning, but neither team was able to make use of their base runner. Jones kicked off a double play to Ben DeMarco and Luke Wenger to escape the bottom of the 1st inning unscathed.

Township got on the board in the top of the 2nd inning after 4 straight singles from Colin Yablonski, Matt Peipher, Kyle Musser, and Will Greiner. Colin Fitzgeralddrove in another run on a fielder’s choice to make it 2-0 MT. After another quiet inning from the Comets, the Blue Streaks’ bats came alive again in the 3rd. DeMarco led off with a single and moved up on a Jones single behind him. Yablonski laid down the 3rd successful bunt single for the Blue Streaks in this game to load the bases for Peipher. Back-to-back singles from Peipher and Musser brought home 2 more runs for Township as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead with no outs in the inning. Greiner snagged his 2nd and 3rd RBIs of the game on a single into left field before Brenden Moshos cleared the bases on his 2nd triple of the season to make it 9-0 MT. Township batted around in the inning and held a 10-0 lead going into the bottom of the 3rd.

With field conditions getting worse, Jones made quick work of Penn Manor in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings by setting down 8 consecutive batters. A late double was not enough for Penn Manor to turn the tide in this game as Jones picked up win #2 and Township held on 10-0 (5). The game was shortened per the 10-run rule after 5 innings. The victory made it 4 straight wins for the varsity squad after dropping their first 2 games.
