Recap
Just a day removed from their 12-4 victory at Cedar Crest, the Manheim Township Blue Streaks visited Manheim Central on Thursday afternoon for their annual Section I/III crossover game against the Barons.
Township was quick to strike first in the top of the 1st again just as they did yesterday afternoon. For the second straight day,
Tyler Mulholland reached base safely to lead off for the Blue Streaks taking a walk on a full count. With 1 out,
Ryan Brader also walked to put runners at first and second. Mulholland scored after a pair of wild pitches to
Ty Jenkins pushed both Township runners around the bases. The lone run in the inning gave MT, and starting pitcher
Gavin Glass (7IP, 3H, 1R, 6K), a 1-0 lead.
The Barons went quickly in the bottom of the 1st as Glass set down the top of the lineup 1-2-3. Scoreless half innings for both teams in the 2nd preserved the 1-0 lead as Township came back to the plate in the 3rd. A leadoff walk for
Ryan Peipher got things going before Mulholland again reached base, this time on a bunt single. Consecutive 2-out walks to Brader and Jenkins loaded the bases for
Cole Stoltzfus. A routine ground ball to the 3rd baseman turned into three Township runs as the throw from 3rd sailed over the head of the MC 1st baseman. After clearing the bases on the error, the Blue Streaks held a 4-0 lead.
Manheim Central capitalized on a leadoff double from Neiles to start the bottom of the 3rd and a SAC fly to right put the Barons on the board. Glass held strong with other runners on the bases and closed out the 3rd with no further damage. The 4-1 Township lead held steady through the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings as Glass continued efficiently setting down the Barons batters one-by-one.
A good offense will tack on an insurance run for their pitcher… today’s offense for the Blue Streaks tacked on five. In the top of the 7th, Township sent 10 guys to the plate and broke open the score 9-1. Two walks, two singles, two errors, a HBP, and a pair of SAC flies more than doubled up the Township lead and sent Glass back to the mound to finish off his complete game with a nice cushion. A ground out, fly out, and strikeout sealed the second consecutive victory for the Blue Streaks and sent the team into the long weekend with a winning record (3-2).
