Recap
On the road for the 4th time in their first 5 games, the Blue Streaks traveled south this afternoon to meet up with Section One foe Penn Manor at Comet Field just outside of Millersville for their first of two games this season. After needing to dig out of an early hole against Hempfield on Monday, Township made sure to get on the board first in this one. Kyle Musser started things off in the top of the 1st for Township taking the first pitch of the afternoon deep to center field for a stand-up double. Two batters later, Dylan King picked up an RBI driving Musser across the plate with a line drive single to left to make it 1-0 MT. While the Blue Streaks left the bases loaded in the 1st, starting pitcher Ben Shenosky (6 IP, 1 ER, 4 H, 6 K) wouldn’t need too much more help from his offense to secure the W.
Shenosky, making his 2nd start of the season, held Penn Manor hitless through the first 3 innings only allowing two baserunners on a HBP and walk. Meanwhile, Ryan Flury provided a laser solo homerun to left field in the 2nd and Colin Fitzgerald the same in the 4th. With only a 3-0 lead through 4, the Township offense wasn’t yet satisfied. Musser reached base on a leadoff walk before scoring on a Drew Sassaman triple to deep right-center. Sassaman also scored on the hit thanks to a fielding error on the throw to home plate. Immediately after, King and Evan Clark reached base on a HBP and single, respectfully, and a Michael Heckman SAC fly made it 6-0 MT.
Still grinding on the mound, Shenosky did surrender two runs to the Comets in the bottom half of the 5th, but righted the ship and finished off his day with 1-2-3 6th inning. Township added 2 extra runs in the top of the 6th off a Clark double that plated JT Weaver and Sassaman. Fisher Druck pitched another lights out final frame to once again secure a Blue Streaks win on the road.
