Recap
Wrapping up their second consecutive week of playing four games in four days, the Manheim Township Blue Streaks traveled below Lancaster City to visit the Solanco Golden Mules on Friday afternoon.
The Township offense picked up where they left off in the late innings last night against Conestoga Valley by taking an early lead in the top of the 1st inning. Three batters in, the Blue Streaks led 1-0 after
JT Weaver singled, stole 2nd, and later scored on a
Ryan Flury ground ball into left field.
Gavin Glass (7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 8 K) got his 2nd start of the season for the Blue Streaks after picking up a no-decision in a win at Central York last Thursday. Glass made quick work of the Solanco lineup the first time around as he faced only three batters in each of the first three innings.
Flury once again helped out his pitcher in the top of the 3rd blasting a 2-run homerun over the left field fence – his 4th HR of the year.
Michael Heckman reached base with a bunt single in the at-bat leading up to Flury’s blast. As it would turn out, Flury’s 3 RBIs accounted for the entirety of the offensive output on the day, but Glass didn’t need anymore than that to roll to victory.
Aside from
Ty Jenkins and
Tyler Mulholland reaching base in the 4th and
Fisher Druck walking in the 6th, the Township offense was quiet after Flury’s homerun. Solanco only picked up their first baserunner in the 4th on an infield error and they loaded the bases with no outs in the 5th, however Glass rebounded with back-to-back-to-back Ks to escape the inning unscathed. A ground out, fly out on a diving catch by Jenkins, and strikeout in the bottom of the 7th ended all hope of a rally for the Golden Mules. Glass finished the complete game shutout on only 85 pitches, with 63 of them going for strikes. Total game time: just 83 minutes.
