Recap
Coming off back-to-back wins to open the week, the Manheim Township Blue Streaks were looking to keep the train rolling with the Penn Manor Comets visiting Westfield Insurance Park for the second time this season on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Streaks had already won the first two games of the season series over the past two weeks.
Trey Eckman worked a clean top of the 1st for the Blue Streaks before Penn Manor capitalized on a throwing error on a dropped third strike in the 2nd inning. Following the error, a steal of home and an RBI single for Riggs made it 2-0 Comets early. Aside from a
Nick Tomlinson single in the bottom of the 1st and walks to
Tyler Mulholland and
Josh Boll in the 2nd and 3rd innings respectively, the Township offense couldn’t get anything going through the first four frames.
The tides shifted in the 5th with the Blue Streaks sending seven batters to the plate and driving in two runs to tie the game up at 2-2. Eckman drove a 1-out single to left field and Boll followed suit. With two outs,
Ryan Brader roped a 2-RBI double into the gap in right-center, allowing both runners to score. The tie score would hold all the way into the 7th where the Comets made things interesting.
A leadoff walk and HBP gave the road team two base runners with no outs before a Riggs double to left field put Penn Manor back in front 3-2. A bases loaded walk later in the inning made it 4-2 Comets before Township came to the plate for the final time. After two quick outs, both
Ty Jenkins and Brader reached base, but the Blue Streaks were retired before the runners could come around to score.
