After dropping 3 games last week, the Varsity Blue Streaks were looking to right the ship as they headed into the final week of the regular season. Colin Yablonski got the start for the Blue Streaks as the Cedar Crest Falcons traveled down from Lebanon County to face MT at Westfield Insurance Park.

Yablonski was dealing early as he set down 6 consecutive Cedar Crest batters to start the game. While the Falcons were kept off the bases, the Blue Streaks tried to make some noise in their half innings. Ryan Jones picked up a walk in the bottom of the 1st and Colin Fitzgerald roped a double to left field in the 2nd, but both runners were left on base. The Falcons got their first base runner in the top of the 3rd as their 2nd batter walked, but the game remained scoreless.

Drew Sassaman and Kyle Musser both walked in the bottom of the 3rd, but again the runners were stranded. Yablonski rolled along into the 4th and only faced 3 batters thanks to a line out double play from Jones to Sassaman after Cedar Crest’s first hit of the day put a man on 1st. Fitzgerald threw a Falcons’ base runner out at 2nd in the top of the 5th to keep the score 0-0.

Township finally broke through in the bottom of the 5th as Sassaman singled to left field and later trotted around the bases along with Brenden Moshos who launched a 2-run homerun over the right field fence to make it 2-0 MT after 5.

A quick 6th inning set up Cedar Crest for one more chance to score some runs in the 7th. A pair of singles and a double allowed the Falcons to knot the game at 2-2 as Yablonski was replaced on the mound by Ben DeMarco. Township had a chance to win in the bottom of the 7th, but they could not and the game went to extras.

Jones pitched a clean 8th inning for the Blue Streaks and got the offense going in the bottom half with a single to left field. Yablonski reached base on a fielder’s choice and Evan Clark walked before both runners on base moved up on a balk. A wild pitch to DeMarco at the plate allowed Township to score the winning run and walk away with a 3-2 victory. This win snaps the team’s 3-game losing streak and puts their record at 12-5 on the season.
