Recap
The Manheim Township Blue Streaks returned home on Wednesday afternoon to host the Elizabethtown Bears in their 3rd of 4 games this week. The game time temperature of 78 degrees brought a season-high number of spectators out to enjoy this one.
Fisher Druck (2-0, 0.00 ERA, 9 K in 2022) took the mound for the Blue Streaks and made a statement early by striking out 3 of the first 4 batters he faced. First inning runs have nearly been a guarantee for Township this season and today was no different. Back-to-back singles from
JT Weaver and
Michael Heckman put men on base right away for MT.
Ryan Flury advanced the runners using a SAC bunt before Druck walked to load the bases. On the 3rd pitch of
Ryan Brader’s first AB, the Blue Streaks’ left fielder lined a double into right field to plate Weaver and Heckman, making it 2-0 Township. Still threatening with runners on,
Ben Shenosky singled to plate courtesy runner,
Tyler Mulholland, and
Ty Jenkins picked up an RBI on a SAC bunt one batter later. The 4 runs in the first inning was all Druck and the Blue Streaks would need to own the day.
Druck would surrender a walk in the 2nd and a single in the 3rd, but the Bears remained silent otherwise. A leadoff fielding error on a Flury pop fly gave Township life again in the 3rd. Druck singled and Shenosky walked before Jenkins collected his 2nd RBI of the afternoon on a single up the middle to make it 5-0 MT. Each team sent only 3 batters to the plate in the 4th before the Blue Streaks upped their lead in the bottom of the 5th. With 2 outs, Brader and Shenosky reached base on walks before both advanced and scored on a collection of wild pitches and steals. Jenkins also reached base for the second time on the day collecting a walk in the inning that assisted in the double steal to score Shenosky.
With his pitch count capping out at 100 in the top of the 7th, Druck’s day was done and Mulholland took the mound in relief for the first time this season. Elizabethtown clawed out two late runs that were tagged on Druck, but the result of the game did not change. 7-2 Final.
