Recap
With passing showers surrounding Lancaster all afternoon, the possibility of playing tonight’s game was in question. When the game was played, one thing that wasn’t in question… the result. Township jumped out to another early lead picking up 2 runs in the first frame thanks to a leadoff walk for Kyle Musser, double for Drew Sassaman, and pair of errors by the McCaskey defense. Taking the mound with a small lead, Ryan Jones made the most of his first outing of 2021. Pitching 6 strong innings (0 R, 2 H, 8 K, 5 BB), Jones had the Red Tornado offense baffled for most of the game.
Sassaman collected his 2nd double of the game in the top of the 2nd inning and drove in Ryan Flury before Dylan King scored JT Weaver on a SAC fly to center. Holding a 4-0 lead into the 4th inning, Jones continued to deal for the Blue Streaks. Flury crossed the plate again in the 4th inning on a Sassaman SAC fly to up the lead to 5. The scoring continued in the top of the 5th inning after a line drive single off the bat of Weaver scored Jones and Colin Fitzgerald. One final insurance run was tacked on in the 6th on a Michael Heckman single that scored Evan Clark.
Jones was relieved on the mound by Fisher Druck to start the 7th inning and fielders Josiah Shaub, Jesus Perez, and Caden Brubaker made appearances in the field for the first time this Spring. Druck closed out the game in short order with 2 strikeouts of his own to secure the 8-0 MT victory.
