Recap
Coming off just their third loss of the season, the Manheim Township Blue Streaks were eager to return to their winning ways as the Cedar Crest Falcons travelled South to Neffsville for their second and final meeting of the year.
Township picked up a 5-0 road win at Cedar Crest back in early April.
The Falcons came out swinging with back-to-back singles for Gonzalez and Marks in the top of the 1st. Township starter
Ben Shenosky recovered and collected 3 consecutive outs to keep Cedar Crest off the board, however the Falcons weren’t as successful in keeping the Blue Streaks quiet in the 1st. A 1-out single from
Michael Heckman led to
Ryan Flury’s 6th homerun of the year to give Township a quick 2-0 lead. MT collected a 3rd run in the bottom of the 2nd after
Jack Armstrong, who reached base on a dropped pop fly, was awarded a trip to home plate on a Cedar Crest balk. Shenosky settled down after the bumpy start to set the Falcons down quickly in the 2nd and 3rd innings.
The Township runs kept coming in the 3rd. Flury’s 2nd hit of the game came on a double past the 3rd baseman before
Fisher Druck lined an RBI single into left-center to make it 4-0 MT. Two batters later, Shenosky padded his lead with an RBI double of his own on another poorly fielded fly ball to the outfield. Druck scored and the Blue Streaks carried a 5-0 lead into the 4th.
Shenosky struck out the side in the top of the 4th before another batch of home team runs arrived in the bottom half. Armstrong and
JT Weaver both reached base on walks later scored on a wild pitch and another hit from Druck.
Ryan Brader also walked before Shenosky collected another RBI on a bases-loaded walk from Cedar Crest’s relief pitcher. Finally, a
Ty Jenkins swinging bunt drove in Druck to make it 9-0 after 4.
Needing only 1 more run to seal the game in 5 innings, Township led off the bottom of the 5th with a Weaver walk and Heckman single and Flury closed the game as he started it – with an RBI hit. A single to left field allowed Weaver to score sliding head first into home to finalize the 10-0 (5) victory. Shenosky finished the shortened effort with 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 9 K.
