Recap

Two days after being shutout at home by Cumberland Valley, the Blue Streaks varsity team put 13 runs on the board in Lancaster City against the J.P. McCaskey Red Tornado on Monday afternoon. With snow flurries falling for the duration of the contest, Township’s offense and Ethan Kile‘s pitching combined for a solid win that vaulted the Blue Streaks into first place in LL League Section 1.

With Manheim Township batting first in the 1st inning, Nick Kurtz continued his hot hitting streak with a double to get himself on base. Tom Cesarone walked and Colin Yablonski drove in the first two runs of the day for Township on a single to center field. Kile took the mound in the bottom of the 1st with a 2-0 lead and that was all he needed to pitch comfortably in this game. Kile held McCaskey quiet for much of the afternoon outside of giving up a run in the bottom of the 2nd inning on a fielder’s choice that was only made possible by a fielding error on the infield.

The Blue Streaks held a 2-1 lead going into the top of the 4th inning where Brenden Moshoslead off with a walk. Will Greiner, courtesy running for Moshos, was moved up to 2nd on a Travis Kraft SAC bunt and scored off a Ben DeMarco double. Colin Morrisette followed with a single and picked up an RBI for scoring DeMarco from 2nd. Rece Bender‘s bunt single and Kurtz’s walk loaded the bases for Cesarone who picked up an RBI on a walk of his own. Kile continued to deal on the mound for Township through the bottom of the 4th inning and took a 5-1 lead into the top of the 5th where the flood gates opened for the Blue Streaks’ offense.

Moshos lead off the inning by reaching base on an infield error and was replaced on the bases again by Greiner. With 1 out, DeMarco singled on a bunt and scored Greiner to tack on another run. A crazy series of hits, walks, wild pitches, and errors allowed Manheim Township to pour it on from there. In the 5th inning, Greiner, DeMarco, Morrisette, Bender, Kurtz, Jordan Yablonski, and C. Yablonski all scored  for the Blue Streaks. At that point, the 10-run rule was in effect with Township holding a 13-1 lead going into the bottom half of the 5th. Kile wrapped up his spectacular performance on the mound with a 1-2-3 inning to claim his first win of the season. He now holds a 1-0 record with a save and a 0.00 ERA in 2 appearances this season.
