Recap

The Junior Varsity Blue Streaks were riding a 3-game win streak to start the season as they headed into Lebanon on Monday afternoon to face Cedar Crest’s JV team. Unlike their first three games of the season, they would need to overcome an early deficit if they wanted to win this one.

As the 2nd batter of the game, Evan Clark got things rolling for the Blue Streaks with a double to right field. Dylan King followed Clark and doubled to bring him around to give Township the early lead. Ryan Flury also added a single in the top of the 1st, but the score remained 1-0. King took the mound to start the bottom of the 1st before Cedar Crest grabbed a 5-1 lead off of a variety of hits and walks.

Township was able to regain the lead by putting up 5 runs of their own in the top of the 2nd. Ben ShenoskyMax ProulxMichael HeckmanCaden Brubaker, and Clark scored in the inning off of a combination of hits and errors by the Cedar Crest defense. Cedar Crest knotted the score at 6-6 in the bottom of the 2nd.

King’s day was over in the bottom of the 3rd after surrendering two walks and a single that gave Cedar Crest the lead 7-6. Brubaker took the mound and the Falcons grabbed two more runs before the inning was over. Down 9-6, Township bats were quiet until a 2-out single by Heckman in the top of the 5th brought Shenosky home from 2nd base. Heckman then took the mound in the bottom half of the inning and shut down the Falcons in order to keep the deficit to 9-7.

Clark and King reached base safely in the top of the 6th and both moved up on a passed ball to give Township a chance to tie the game up. Flury came through with a huge single to left field to tie the game at 9-9. With the score tied, Cedar Crest pulled ahead again, 12-9, after collecting 4 hits on Heckman in the 6th inning.

Township’s final chance to tie or go ahead on the scoreboard came in the top of the 7th when Heckman and Brubaker both walked with no outs. Another Cedar Crest error allowed Heckman to score and Clark to reach base safely for the Blue Streaks. After King reached base, Flury once again cleared the bases with a double to center field and tied up the game 12-12 with only 1 out. Fisher Druck followed up Flury and reached base on Cedar Crest’s 7th error of the game while also bringing home 2 more runs for the Blue Streaks. Clark, Township’s 4th pitcher of the day, wrapped up the game in the bottom of the 7th to hold onto the 14-12 win for the JV Blue Streaks.

Township JV is now 4-0 on the season.
