Recap

The Blue Streaks varsity team was looking to turn around after a tough loss on Tuesday afternoon and snag a victory on the road against the Warwick Warriors, currently the hottest team in Section 1, on Wednesday. Township won the first matchup against the Warriors back in early April at Westfield Insurance Park thanks to a late inning comeback.

In this one, Township’s offense struggled to get going early when they needed it the most. The Blue Streaks went 1-2-3 in the top of the 1st and the top of the 3rd and only had two runners in the 2nd inning. Brenden Moshos singled to reach base and Tom Cesarone walked to put two men on for the Streaks before they were retired in the half inning. Will Greiner took the mound for Township in this game and kept the Warriors quiet through the first 3 innings using combinations of ground outs, fly outs, and strikeouts.

The Blue Streaks had another chance to get something going in the top of the 4th when Rece Bender singled with 2 outs. Colin Fitzgerald walked to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Bender stole 3rd before Township was finished in the inning and the score remained 0-0. Warwick got to Greiner in the bottom of the 4th with a lead off homerun and a few hits that brought home 3 runs for the Warriors. Township’s bats went quiet again in the 5th inning as they still trailed 3-0 and Warwick picked up an additional 4 runs to blow open the lead 7-0.

Colin Morrisette made his 1st appearance this season on the mound for the Blue Streaks with 1 out in the 5th inning and retired the Warriors without any further damage in the 5th and 6th innings. Township had another chance to grab a run in the 6th inning when Ethan Kile was hit by a pitch with 1 out and Moshos doubled to move Kile to 3rd. The Streaks were again retired before getting any runs across the plate. In their final at-bats in the 7th, Matt Peipher lined a double to right-center field with 2 outs to try and at least keep this game from being a shutout. Ben DeMarco, who returned to the lineup following an injury earlier this week, brought home Township’s first run of the afternoon on a ground ball to the Warwick shortstop. After a Nick Kurtz single, MT was retired and the final score was 7-1.
