JV jumps on Hempfield early and picks up win #2 at home, 8-2

After starting the season 1-0 with a win at Warwick earlier in the week, the Junior Varsity Blue Streaks were looking to take down another local opponent to cap off a great first week of the season. The JV Hempfield Black Knights had to face Freshman Ben Shenosky on the mound in his 2019 pitching debut. Shenosky allowed one walk in the top of the 1st before setting Hempfield's lineup down 1-2-3 in both the 2nd and 3rd innings.

A single to right field off the bat of Max Proulx scored courtesy runner Jesus Perez from 3rd and kept the bases loaded with only 1 out. Michael Heckman reached base and advanced the runners on an infield error by the Black Knights. Evan Clark singled to score Weaver from 3rd before Caden Brubaker and Dylan King forced 2 more runs across the plate on bases-loaded walks. The Blue Streaks held a 5-0 lead into the 4th inning where Hempfield finally was able to get on the board.

Hempfield collected a walk and a couple hits off of Shenosky in the top of the 4th to put 2 runs on the board. Ben was able to settle down and retire the Black Knights in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings without allowing any other damage. Township bats were held in check until they fired up again in the 6th. Brubaker singled, King walked, and Flury and Druck drove home runs with singles of their own. Perez batted in the Blue Streaks' final run of the day on a ground out to set the final score at 8-2. Heckman finished the game on the mound for JV after 6 strong innings from Shenosky.

Next Game: Township JV faces Exeter in a make-up game from last weekend on Saturday (3/30) at noon at home.
